Save Work on Self-Service Moves
Your self-service move will be faster and easier if you have the right equipment and know how to use it properly. For those brave enough to take on the packing and loading themselves, there are some very handy tips and tools that will make your physical labor a bit less physical.
Tools for Self Service Moves
- Sliders are tiny and inconspicuous, but they make a big difference when moving heavy objects. Sliders are perfect for using with dressers, cabinets, curios and furniture that can’t be broken down.
How to use it:
Each slider has one non-static, slick plastic side and one foam-cushioned side. Put a slider under the weight-bearing points of the object to be moved, and, with very little muscle work, you can push your heavy item across carpets, wood, ceramic or vinyl tile. Remember, however, that sliders will not move objects down stairs and cannot slide on concrete or other rough surfaces. - Haulers and Dolleys seem a little unwieldy the first time you use them, but they quickly win you over by doing most of your work for you. These wheeled push trolleys (or dolleys) that can be stacked with items far too heavy to carry. They are perfect for quickly and easily hauling 3 X the number of boxes you could carry alone, and you don’t even strain your arms and back.
How to use it:
A hauler (or sometimes called a Trolley or Dolley) can be stacked up and wheel the heavy boxes to the trailer, or stack all of those lightweight boxes on top of one another to avoid many trips and inefficient loading.
You’re saving a lot of money with a Self-Service move, so why not use the right equipment and save yourself some work, too?
