Household Move Success
At the end of your household move, the time will come when all of your planning, organization and hard work finally come to fruition and you big moving day has arrived.
Here are some great tips to make sure your household move ends successfully:
- Be at your home when the movers arrive. If you are not able to be present, appoint a “back up.” Make sure a friend or family member is available and let the movers know that you have authorized this person to make any necessary decisions on your behalf.
- Review all paperwork, documents, and contracts with the movers when they arrive. Mistakes can happen on both sides of the equation, however early notice can save you and the mover a lot of hassle. Resolve any discrepancies regarding damaged items, etc and make sure that you agree with any notations made by the movers about the conditions.
- Make sure the movers have your contact number while in transit, or the number of a family member/friend, if you will not be reachable.
- Make sure the driver has the address of your new home and contact numbers for you and a back up. Ask about GPS tracking and if the moving company provides real-time tracking of the trailer. This comes in handy with long distance moves.
- Complete a final inspection of your hold home after everything has been loaded to ensure all items were taken. Give all keys, garage door openers, entrance key cards, alarm codes, alarm company phone number, etc to the new owner and or real estate agent.
- Verify that the utilities have been disconnected in your old home and connected in your new home. You don’t want to move into your new home without electricity or running water! (or TV!)
