Moving Tips - Bicycles
Moving and Packing Bicycles
What you will need: Bike box and plastic fork protector (optional), bubble wrap or packing paper, small wrench and/or pliers, cardboard, small blade or utility knife. All of the packing supplies you will need are right here.
How to pack in a bike box: A bicycle will take up the least amount of space and travel the safest if you package it properly in a bike box. A bike box and plastic fork protectors should not cost you any money as most bike shop dealers throw these items out once the new bicycle has been unpackaged. Remove pedals and the front wheel. Insert fork protector onto fork. Wrap frame in bubble wrap or packing paper. Place bike into the box turning handlebars to allow them to fit. Place front wheel into the box in front of and just above the cranks. Seal the box well with tape and label it Bike.
How to pack without a bike box: Loosen, lower and turn handlebars at right angles to save space. Clean and cover chains and pedals to protect other items from being snagged or soiled.
